Climate Friendly Food will offer the UK's most comprehensive carbon calculator for farmers and growers. This tool will be available free on this website from October 2009, initially for organic farmers and growers - then from 2010 for all farmers and growers.

This tool will enable farmers and growers to work out their carbon emissions from farming activities, how much carbon is sequestered in soil and biomass, then whether the farm is a net carbon emitter or sequester (in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year).

With this information the producer can attribute a carbon label to each pack, kilo or tonne of produce they sell, enabling their customers to make informed choices to help them lower their carbon footprint through the food they buy.
Version 2

The second verion of Climate Friendly Food's carbon calculator for farmers and growers has been produced by Jonathan Smith and Mukti Mitchell - see a screenshot from the speadsheet right.

It is currently being tested by commercial organic growers and being peer reviewed by academics. Version 2 will be launched, having been pilot tested and peer reviewed on 12th October 2009.
