Currently the UK emits greenhouses gases equivalent to around 125 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year from food production. This figure equates to about 13% of the UK's entire carbon footprint, making food a very big contributor to climate change. Add to this the impacts from processing, distributing and cooking food and the emissions are equivalent to around 30% of the UK's total greenhouse gas emissions.

But soils also act as an enormous carbon sink, a process known as carbon sequestration. If every acre of farmland across the world absorbed organic matter levels by just 1% global CO2 levels would fall to pre-industrial levels!

Climate Friendly Food will offer certification to farmers and growers in the UK that produce low-carbon food through rich-soil farming. The Carbon Standards for Food Production will be the first of their kind in the UK and offer customers a real way to see just how sustainable the food they are consuming really is.

Three categories will be offered:

More information about the certification process will appear here soon. For further information, or to register interest, please contact us.
